the sky is growing dark, i'm drinking my milk tea and waiting for the moon. today i walked the brown snaky paths between the dotted green hills of tea and i felt exuberant, alive and full of joy and promise. the sky was so big and the tree border so tall and the green so green and the tin roofed houses down in the gardened valley shown in that perfect light of the late afternoon. i was so full of the beauty that i almost wanted to squeal or to run just to feel it all more. to run out of thanks for the freedom to be alive and the privilege of living in the place that i love, and for health and strength and a sound mind and for hope. for the fact that we all have such gifts to give each other- that our lives have such purpose- that it all matters- that we can make a difference in how this great world spins.
so i might move to kenya someday just to hike those tea field hills daily which hold the light perfectly and somehow smell of coffee.
You and I, Love, together we ratify the silence,
while the sea destroys its perpetual statues,
collapses its towers of wild speed and whiteness:
because in the weavings of those invisible fabrics,
galloping water, incessant sand,
we make the only permanent tenderness
- There Where the Waves Shatter, Pablo Neruda
the sky is now dark blue, i will go and find the moon.
