seven

seven.  yesterday jude turned seven.

i love this guy.  i'm attached to him.  maybe in a special way because of his story. because of what i've learned, of the things that his life reminds me.  that we are not abandoned, that God is good even when life is hard.

a while ago i wrote about the 12 stones taken from the jordan river by the Israelites to remind them of God's providence- that he sometimes leads us to impossible situations, but he provides passage.  when i think about my life, about my stones, those things that remind me of the waters being parted- many of them are from the riverbed of my pregnancy with jude, his birth and our first years with him.

when i reflect on jude- his life and my experience with him, i realize that my days with him are just as they should be- days with him.  a typical now seven year old, full of laughing and loose teeth, whining and learning multiplication, watching the sun set quietly together and telling him for the 40th time to brush his teeth.  but on his birthday, i think i will always reflect on some of my stones.

i will remember that maybe the point of life is the searching to know and be known by God. that life is full, and part of the fullness is going through hard hard times, as well as light, free flying times.  our days are made up of both, and thankfully God walks with us through both.
