looking up

today i woke up to a perfect full moon holding the entire sky.  the circle and her surrounding outline, glowing reinforcement, layers of night light, golden against the fading dark blue.  i was so happy.  i was so happy that i hadn't missed it.  that i'd happened to go outside and look up at that beauty.

it was a moment when i realized, again, that rushing around like a headless chicken, has consequences.  consequences like missing a giant moonful morning sky and the light and the peace that were shown down on those who looked up.

what if i hadn't?
and how many times do i forget to look up? or down? or listen to the big words spoken by the little voices of my children? how often am i distracted by the routine, or the dinner plans or the emails or the list? how often do i miss the miracles and then curse the lack of them?

i need to build it into my days.  i need to practice looking up, and listening all around, and being full in my moments.

because that was an incredible moon.
